Obamacare, Obama's Legacy Hated and Loved
Barack Obama has been an important part of the history of the United States (US). Obama is the first black president of the US and the one who completely overhauled the health insurance system in the US since the 1960s, which was named Obamacare.
During his eight-year leadership of the US, Barack Obama managed to get through the difficult times of the great recession . When in power, Obama had a program called Obamacare, which did not get much positive response since it was first launched.
As the US presidential leadership changed from Obama to Donald Trump, Obamacare or the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) became the talk of the town again in the US. The Republican Party as the new ruler has been aiming to repeal this program from the start.
Instead of getting support, the US public is divided, many are asking for the program to be maintained. Whereas previously, Obamacare was an unpopular program during Obama's term as president.
In a poll by CNN/ORC International released Thursday (19/1/2017) local time, for the first time, more Americans view Obamacare positively than negatively since the program was passed in 2010.
Time wrote that this response shows that the American public does not know what they are getting after (almost) losing this program. Like the sad experience of being left by a lover, the attitude of the American public from the results of the poll shows that 49 percent like this law, slightly more than the 47 percent who oppose it.
The positive response to Obamacare is the first time it has occurred after at least 18 similar polls since March 2010. This occurred amid the increasing discourse to repeal the law when the US leadership changed from Obama to Trump. Trump, who had just been officially elected US president, had repeatedly repeated his promise to repeal the law during the campaign.
Eighty-two percent of respondents think Trump's promise to repeal and replace the program will come true. Of those, a majority -- 55 percent -- expect Republicans to repeal only part of the law and only if a replacement can be enacted at the same time.
In this poll, despite respondents’ growing liking for the law, they did see it as a failure, with 37 percent saying so. While that percentage is up, only 23 percent say it is a success, but it is notable that the increase occurred among Democrats, with 46 percent saying so, up from 19 percent in 2015.
The poll was conducted by telephone between January 12-15, 2017, among 1,000 adults with a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. Other results of the survey revealed that health care as a priority has increased in the eyes of the American public. As many as 14 percent said that health care is the most important issue in the US.
Obamacare polemics
Obamacare actually has a noble purpose. As quoted from the BBC , the ACA Act wants to reach about 15 percent of the US population who are not yet covered by health insurance, those who do not get insurance from employers and are not covered by the US health programs for the elderly and the poor (Medicare and Medicaid).
The ACA requires all Americans to have health insurance. And to achieve that, it offers subsidies for cheaper health coverage and lowers insurance costs by bringing younger, healthier people into the medical coverage system. It also requires employers with more than 50 full-time employees to offer health insurance.
Ultimately, the law aims to slow the growth of health care spending in the United States, which currently has the highest spending levels in the world
The act also created a state-run health care marketplace, www.healthcare.gov , where Americans can compare prices and purchase health care.

PENGASSAN Wants Justice For Oil Workers Assaulted By Military Personnel
LAGOS – Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), has called on relevant authorities to commence a full and transparent investigation and immediate arrest and prosecution of the military and security personnel allegedly hired by Dutchford E&P, Selective Marine Services and its Labour Contractors to assault oil and gas workers at the Oritsetimeyin Oil and Gas Rig
The oil workers association also said the perpetrators must be held accountable for their actions under both national and international law.
Comrade Festus Osifo, PENGASSAN President and the General Secretary, Comrade Lumumba Okugbama, in a statement made available to Daily Independent, specifically demanded a full and transparent investigation into the sad incident , and therefore, called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible for ordering and carrying out the brutal assault on the workers.
Part of the statement called for a guarantee of the safety and security of all oil and gas workers on the rigs, and a commitment from the relevant authorities to uphold the rights of workers and engage in peaceful conflict resolution.
“PENGASSAN will not sit idly while such egregious human rights violations occur. We will utilise all available avenues to ensure justice for the members and to prevent any future reoccurrence.
“We call on all concerned citizens, human rights organisations, and international bodies to join us in condemning this violence and demanding accountability, as silence in the face of such brutality is complicity”, the association said
While condemnly the act, the association noted that the actions also negates the tenets of the Nigerian constitution and all extant laws governing the operations in the nation’s oil and gas sector.
The association cautioned that if the reports indicate that oil and gas workers are violently ejected from the rig any date soon, PENGASSAN will deploy every means to frustrate such moves; as the act represents a grave violation of human rights and known labour conventions.
”The use of military actions against unarmed workers is completely unjustifiable and disproportionate because, it is the Nigerian workers who have been subjugated to unfair workplace policies, including being paid meager wages while working in a hazardous environment that should be the complainant.
“While we understand and commend the workers for their professional disposition to keep the oil rigs flowing, the response of deploying the military to violently remove them is unacceptable and demonstrates a complete disregard for human life and the rule of law.
“The use of such force against unarmed civilians engaged in legitimate work is abhorrent and cannot be tolerated”.

6 Ways to Naturally Brighten Your Skin
Caring for your skin properly is incredibly important as there are many factors in daily life that can negatively impact it, such as pollution, makeup, eating unhealthy foods, stress, and more. These variables can cause many side effects, including acne, dryness, red marks, and even wrinkles, and knowing how to take care of your skin can eliminate these results and leave your skin feeling smooth and looking bright and healthy.
There are many solutions that can improve the condition of your skin, and here are six natural ways to brighten it for a flawless and healthy look for the long run.
Honey
You may wonder why honey has made the list as a skin brightener. Although the thought of putting honey on your skin may sound messy, it is actually very beneficial. For best results use raw, organic honey or manuka honey.
Honey contains antibacterial and probiotic properties that are great for your skin. It also has extreme hydrating powers. Although honey won’t be good for removing your makeup, it does make a great cleanser.
Simply wet your face and apply a little dab of honey. Continue by massaging your face like you would any other cleanser product. After you wash it off, your skin will be smooth, hydrated, and protected from bacteria.
The water will also ensure that you won’t make a sticky mess in the process. All in all, honey is great for your skin whether you use it topically or if you eat it. It can also prevent breakouts. I can personally attest to this!
Want to take it up a notch? Add a few sprinkles of turmeric.
Lemon Juice
The acidic properties of lemon juice can do wonders for your skin. The acidity helps to cleanse the pores, exfoliating the skin, helping to rid it of pimples and blackheads and preventing them from popping up as frequently in the future. The juice is also packed with antioxidants and vitamins that help to rid the skin or red spots and dark spots, resulting in an overall brighter complexion.
Lemon juice can be applied directly to the skin using a cloth or cotton ball, however, to avoid irritating the skin, use only 1-2 times a week. For less potent solutions, mix the lemon juice with some water or make a mask with honey, turmeric, milk, specialized oils, or other ingredients. Leave the mask on for 15 to 30 minutes, then rinse it off.
Green Tea
Green tea has many common health benefits, such as aiding in weight loss, strengthening hair, increasing energy levels, and more, but it can also help you achieve healthy skin. The antioxidants in green tea help rid the pores of bacteria, decreasing inflammation, acne, and symptoms of conditions like rosacea. It also removes dead skin cells and promotes healthier cells, helping them grow and heal more effectively, leading to smooth and younger-looking skin.
Soaked green tea bags can be applied directly to dark spots, but there are also many homemade options that can serve as simple face masks. Some common ingredients that can be used to make a mask include water, oils, aloe, turmeric, sugar, banana, and more, all of which can be blended with green tea leaves to maximize benefits.
Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is most commonly used to soothe the skin after a sunburn, but it also has many other benefits and can help naturally brighten your skin. Aloe can reduce hyperpigmentation, or dark spots, on the face and other parts of the body with its moisturizing and purifying qualities. The enzymes, vitamins, acids, and other properties in the aloe plant’s gel help fight skin infection and can reduce redness and inflammation.
Aloe in its original form comes in a gel substance from the aloe plant. Aloe vera can be found in various lotions, chap sticks, masks, and other products, but the gel can be applied to any part of the body directly from the plant if desired.
Epsom Salt
Epsom salt and similar magnesium products can help exfoliate and draw toxins from the skin, leaving it feeling and looking smooth and healthy. It reduces redness and inflammation and has anti-bacterial properties that soothe itchy skin and reduce infections. For those with atopic dermatitis, or eczema, Epsom salt can be particularly helpful in reducing irritation and lessening the redness of the area.
Add one to two cups of the salt to a warm bath and soak in the water. Depending on the condition of your skin, a relaxing bath with Epsom salt can be taken anywhere from one to a few times a week. A small spoonful can also be added to body and face washes for extra exfoliation.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil provides an incredibly effective solution for many skin types due to the wide range of benefits it provides. This oil has anti-fungal and bacterial properties, strengthens skin, protects against sunburn and harsh weather, reduces redness, and is a great moisturizer. These many benefits can help relieve the symptoms of various skin conditions, such as the dry, flaky skin associated with psoriasis. Not only does coconut oil protect skin, it also nourishes it below the surface, providing a simple way to achieve a bright and healthy look.
This natural remedy can be used simply by rubbing a small amount onto the face and body. It may leave an oily appearance directly after application, but the oils will be absorbed. Coconut oil can also be added to face masks and combined with natural substances and lotions for a healthy boost for your skin.
Pollutants, skin diseases, and other elements of daily life can take a negative toll on the skin, and taking care of it is important to ensure that it remains healthy and looking young. These natural remedies will leave your skin bright while providing the various health boosts it needs to maintain a wonderful glow.
