I’m ready to stand surety for Nnamdi Kanu – Soludo

 Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra state said he is ready to provide surety for Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Soludo stated this in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, a political show monitored by our correspondent on Thursday.

He said, “On South-East Security, we need Nnamdi Kanu, all stakeholders around the table…. grant him administrative bail, and I am prepared to provide as surety …”

Recall that Soludo had joined the list of those calling for Mr Kanu’s release during the presidential campaign flag-off of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Awka, Anambra State on 15 January.

But, the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has reacted to Soludo’s request to stand as surety for Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In an interview with newsmen on Wednesday, the Attorney-General said he was not in receipt of Mr Soludo’s request.

“There is no such request formally before the federal government or the judicial process.

“As at today, being 18 January 2023, I am not in receipt of any application arising from the public statement made by the governor of Anambra State (Chukwuma Soludo), either through the judicial process or extended to me as the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF),” Malami said.

 FORMER President Olusegun Obasanjo and Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, yesterday, explained why they endorsed Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Mr Peter Obi for president.

Obasanjo justified his letter in which he threw his weight behind Obi, saying God would punish him if he failed to do the right thing.

On his part, Governor Ortom explained that although Obi, like most human beings, is not perfect, he possessed  qualities of the kind of leader Nigeria needs at this point in her history. Only unpatriotic Nigerian will vote candidate with bad character —Obasanjo

Obasanjo spoke while featuring on an interactive session of the Experiential Leadership in Africa (TEL-Africa), held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The TEL-AFRICA global interactive session has as its theme ‘Executive Decisions, Indecisions, and Leadership Development in Africa.’

He, however, declared that only “unpatriotic and bad Nigerians” will vote for a candidate with bad character in the forthcoming general elections.

The former President, in his New Year message to Nigerians, entitled ‘My appeal to all Nigerians particularly young Nigerians,’ threw his support behind Obi.

The development, however, generated reactions from both the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar and that of the All Progressives Congres, APC, Bola Tinubu.

Elon Musk becomes first person in history to lose $200 billion

 Twitter CEO Elon Musk has become the first human being in history to lose a mammoth $200 billion in net worth, Bloomberg reported.

It wasn’t too long ago that Musk became the second individual ever to amass a personal fortune of more than $200 billion. That happened in January 2021, just months after Amazon founder Jeff Bezos accomplished the same feat.

Much of Musk’s lost billions have been swallowed up by the plummeting value of his shares in Tesla, the electric vehicle company of which he is CEO. That value has dropped 65% this year, and dove 11% last Tuesday alone, as Bloomberg noted Friday.

Musk’s challenges include huge controversies over his hands-on management of a struggling Twitter, for which he paid $44 billion. The self-described “free speech absolutist” has repeatedly come under fire for arbitrarily booting journalists over actions he disapproves of, while allowing previously banned neo-Nazis back on the social media platform.

The company is apparently so strapped for cash that Musk recently shut down the servers supporting a Twitter data center in Sacramento. He has also fired janitors at Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters, reportedly forcing some staffers to bring in their own toilet paper.

The billionaire has described the financially challenged Twitter as “basically ... a plane that is headed toward the ground at high speed with the engines on fire and the controls don’t work.”

Tesla investors fear Musk’s over-involvement in Twitter is distracting him from responding to serious issues at Tesla amid mounting competition.

In a dramatic move, Tesla has been offering American consumers a $7,500 discount on certain car models before the end of the year. The company is also reportedly reducing production at its Shanghai plant.

Musk’s fortune to date peaked in November 2021 at $340 billion, according to Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index. He’s now worth a not-too-shabby $137 billion, per Bloomberg, but that’s still a steep dive from 2021.

Musk was the world’s richest person until earlier this month, when he was surpassed by European fashion magnate Bernard Arnault, the powerhouse behind LVMH

The world’s billionaires collectively lost nearly $2 trillion in 2022, Forbes reported earlier this month. American billionaires lost a combined $660 billion, more than in any other country, Forbes noted, and Musk lost the most of all.

(The loss occurred, however, after the world’s billionaires added $5 trillion to their collective wealth between March 2020 and November 2021.)

Forbes attributed the losses in America to a dive in tech stock value, rising interest rates, inflation and a weakening economy.

The Kogi State Government has declared Thursday, December 29, 2022 a public holiday

The Kogi State Government has declared Thursday, December 29, 2022 a public holiday as the state prepares to receive President Muhammadu Buhari, for the inauguration of legacy projects of the Governor Yahaya Bello-led administration.

A statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, on Sunday, urged the people of Kogi State to come out en masse to receive the President and display the hospitality they were known.

The state government also urged all labour unions and security agencies in Kogi State to ensure full compliance.

The statement read, “President Muhammadu Buhari shall be visiting Kogi State on December 29, 2022 to inaugurate legacy projects across the state.

“In view of this and to ensure a hitch free reception of Mr President, the Government of Kogi State under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello wishes to announce that Thursday has been declared as a public holiday.

“The decision is to enable the people of the state to receive our President. We urge all our labour unions and security agencies to ensure full compliance.

“The government wishes to call on the people of the state to come out en masse to receive Mr President and display the hospitality we are known for as he will be inaugurating life-touching legacy projects across the state.”
